A Certificate Authority (CA) is an entity within Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) that issues and manages digital certificates attesting that a public key belongs to its stated owner. CAs also handle certificate lifecycle management and revocation (publishing Certificate Revocation Lists), serving as the root of trust on the internet. They are widely used for website identity verification and email signature validation.
