A list published and maintained by a Certificate Authority (CA) in a PKI infrastructure that contains information about digital certificates that have been revoked before their expiration date. During certificate validation, the CRL is consulted to prevent misuse of revoked certificates. Certificates that have merely expired are not listed in the CRL.
