Short for Distributed Denial of Service attack. A cyber attack in which a large number of malware-infected computers (a botnet) simultaneously flood a target server with massive amounts of requests, causing its service to become unavailable. Because the attack traffic originates from many distributed sources, simple IP blocking is ineffective. Exploitation of vulnerable IoT devices as attack vectors has become increasingly common.
