Short for Fiber To The Home, a broadband network architecture that runs optical fiber cable directly from the telecommunications exchange to a residential user's premises. Compared with copper-based services such as ADSL, FTTH delivers significantly higher speeds and greater bandwidth, and is widely deployed in Japan under the common name 'hikari kaisen' (fiber line).
