A scheme in which an accredited third-party body audits and certifies that an organization's Information Security Management System (ISMS) conforms to a standard such as ISO/IEC 27001. Certification publicly demonstrates that the organization has implemented appropriate measures to manage and protect its information assets. It does not, however, guarantee that individual systems are free of vulnerabilities or that specific functions are correctly implemented.
