A scheme in which a designated accreditation body audits and certifies that an organization's Information Security Management System (ISMS) has been properly established and operated in conformance with requirements based on ISO/IEC 27001. Certification objectively validates an organization's information-security efforts and is used to build trust with business partners and fulfill accountability obligations.
