MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) is the average time a system or device operates normally between one failure and the next, calculated by dividing total operating time by the number of failures. A longer MTBF indicates higher reliability. Together with MTTR (Mean Time To Repair), it is used to compute system availability: availability = MTBF ÷ (MTBF + MTTR).
