Patent Law protects novel inventions that can be used in industry by granting the inventor (or applicant) an exclusive right to exploit the invention for a fixed period. Computer-implemented business models can also qualify for patent protection when they constitute a technical invention. The protection period is generally 20 years from the filing date.
