Phishing is an attack in which the perpetrator sends fraudulent emails impersonating banks, credit card companies, or government agencies, luring victims to convincing fake websites in order to steal personal information such as passwords, credit card numbers, and PINs. The fake sites are often visually indistinguishable from legitimate ones, and the attack frequently results in financial loss.
