Private IP addresses are ranges of IP addresses reserved for use within closed organizational or home networks (intranets) and are not directly routable on the public internet. Common ranges include 10.x.x.x, 172.16–31.x.x, and 192.168.x.x, and they can be used freely without registration with ICANN. Devices with private IP addresses access the internet through NAT (Network Address Translation), which maps them to a public (global) IP address.
