A proxy server acts as an intermediary that accesses web servers on the internet on behalf of computers within an internal network. Because the internal IP addresses are not directly exposed to the outside, it improves security. Proxy servers are also used to log access records and enforce access controls that block connections to unauthorized or malicious sites.
