A server certificate is a digital certificate issued by a Certificate Authority (CA) that verifies the legitimacy of a web server and enables SSL/TLS encrypted communication. It encrypts data exchanged between a browser and a server, protecting it from eavesdropping and tampering. Also called an SSL certificate, it is used by websites whose URLs begin with 'https://'.
