An attack technique in which packets carrying a forged source IP address are sent to deceive communication partners or intermediary devices. Attackers use it to hide their real IP address or to impersonate a trusted host. It is also exploited to bypass firewall access controls or to serve as a stepping stone for DDoS attacks.
